Profile

Hi, my name is Angelos Fasois. I was born in Athens, Greece on January 1969. I have been practising different styles of traditional Gung fu since 1984. But still, after all this time, I found out that I have long way to go. I began formally training in the Martial Arts at the age of fifteen.

I began training at a local Judo school and later on at a tae kwon do and a shaolin Gong fu school. At the age of 16 I started lessons in the Tai Nui (Dragon and Eagle) style of Gung fu for the purpose of self defence. Later on, I joined the special forces (Marines) of my country where I envolved with Shotokan karate and special force tactics.

From 1989 I started my training by different teachers in various styles of traditional Gong fu. Personally, I believe it is not how much knowledge you have that is important, but how your knowledge helps to improve your technique and enhances your quality of life. I studied the following under different teachers and students from different countries:

  • Ying Jow pai (Eagle claw).
  • Fu jow pai (Tiger Claw).
  • Nan Quan (Southern Style).
  • Chang Quan ( Long style Boxing).
  • Bagua Zhang ( Eight-Diagram Palm).
  • Shaolin Quan (Shaolin Boxing).
  • Luohan Quan (Arhat boxing).
  • Yang family Tai chi.
  • Chen family Tai chi.
  • Baji quan (Fist of Eight Limits).
  • San Chia quan (Three family fist).
  • Wing Chun (techniques from the Wooden Dummy).
  • Qigong (Hard and Soft).
  • Chinese Weapons (DAO, Tai chi Saber, Spear, Kwando, Cudjel).
  • Filipino Weapons (Tabak Toyok, Arnis, Knife, Sarong, Bullwhip, e.t.c).
  • Projectiles (Different knifes, Shurikens, Tomahawks e.t.c).
  • Bullwhip.
  • Panantukan.

I travelled in England and Holland, participating in numerous competitions, forms as well as sparring, and also gave demonstrations and radio interviews. I took medals and trophies back to my country. I used to be a member of the Dutch Wushu Federation.

From 1994, I started studing Filipino fighting systems in the form of seminars and in 1995 I was involved more seriously in Filipino fighting systems (Pekiti Tirsia) and later on with other systems like FCS Kali and Sayoc. Since then, I have been working on integrating concepts and techniques from the Filipino arts (especially Panatukan and Buno), into various Chinese systems.
